I enjoyed reading the two books that I purchased at your book signing in Silver Spring, Md. Both the Payback Assignment and The Orion Assignment were fast paced, action packed ,easy to read and fun. I look forward to reading your other books.

Austin did an awesome job using creative imagination with the Payback Assignment. Just when you think Austin's running out of energy to write another vivid scene, think again! Throughout the book there is a constant change of events with twists and turns never imagined. Austin includes a plethora of dramatic scenes, punch lines, and a means of escape for the characters - all for your enjoyment. Throughout the book there are some borderline magical events but in the real world we simply refer to them as "a coincidence." However, this book is a depiction of what it really means to stretch your imagination and at the same time remain believable. Austin's writing style includes the depth and clarity that simulates the appearance of actually sitting in front of a movie screen.

THE PAYBACK ASSIGNMENT - I bought this book at the Clifton fair. I finished it on my last trip. It was a fun read. I especially enjoyed your characters and description. I know that I enjoyed the characters because I miss them now that the book is over. - Jim Henderson

As with his previous novels, Mr. Camacho leaves readers wanting more with DAMAGED GOODS. I’m impatiently waiting for the next Hannibal Jones mystery!

I finished "Payback Assignment" about a week ago and just now had the chance to give you my review. First off I liked it. You've definitely made the action book your forte. Morgan and Felicity make an interesting and intriuging duo of a tough guy/sleek lady. It's rare to find an expert on writing about experts.

My favorite chapters had to be the "stealth" chapters with Felicity. The descriptions of her athletic feats were fun too. I also liked Morgan's personalized guns and knife collection were cool.

As for the psychic powers they made an interesting edge, but they deserve to be expanded in future books. Not more powerful per se, but hinted at and described in greater detail. No one seemed to look at Morgan or Felicity and wonder "How he/she do that?" I know they're experts and all but yoru average bystander might see this stuff and just be flabbergasted. Like Felicity's "time sense." I thought it was neat that she knew exactly how long a 1 or 2 story drop to a window ledge would take.

It'd also be neat to see more of Morgan's abilities: his danger sense, his direction sense to find North, and his distance sense. All I can remember is when he judged Felicity's clothing size. Mind you it's ability to be jealous of but his psychic abilities could use more spotlight time. Before I forget the sex scene with the weird "other's point of view" event really caught me off guard. Excellent work.

Now I want to end this letter by saying that I really liked the book. It just needs a few touches here and there. In the sequels I'd put in more stuff about the psychic abilities and make any future villains more villainous somehow. No cackling in a thunderstorm or anything. A good villian is someone that acts callous, cruel, manipulative, hurts countless

people and then looks around and says, "I love my job." One final thought: you wrote a novel about psychics and didn't have a spoon bending reference!

Maybe for the next one.

Cool Adventure, October 25, 2005

The Payback Assignment, a departure from the popular Hannibal Jones series by author, Austin Camacho, is truly what the doctor ordered for all you adventure-story junkies interested in the same ol' genre sprinkled with a new twist -- the macho man protagonist actually shares the limelight with a ... gasp! ... female. I'm not talking hero/sidekick action here, either.

Morgan Stark, the male "hero," or anti-hero of "Payback" is living the life of a typical loner, takes-no-prisoners mercenary who does what he pleases, when he pleases, with whom he pleases.

Enter, Felicity O'Brian -- beautiful loner, takes-no-prisoners jewel thief who's crossed by a nefarious big shot who just so happens to have crossed Morgan as well. The way Camacho connects the two and starts them on their
"Payback Assignment" is as engaging as the unfolding of the story. Though feminine, Felicity is no feline afraid of a broken nail or bad-hair day. She winds up saving Morgan's bacon as many times as he saves hers. Whew... how refreshing.

Overall, "The Payback Assignment," is a cool adventure that doesn't insult the reader's intelligence, but still provides an exciting romp of intrique for thoes wanting to snuggle in and relax with something breezy for a Saturday afternoon.

Red Hot Action, October 11, 2005

Felicity and Morgan came from different worlds yet they share a magical, almost mystical, powers of sorts. Both were on the top of their games and both were had -- and they had had enough!!

Thus, the Payback Assignment works its way to its predictable conclusion. Or does it? There's really only one way for YOU to know, isn't there? That's right. You guessed it. Get the book. It's worth the read.

I enjoyed the "The Payback Assignment." The characters were an excellent combination of opposites that blended together at an acceptable pace. The storyline kept my eyes moving and the action kept me turning pages for the next sequence.

I am an avid reader of all genres but I especially like the action mystery fictions and I am loyal to the main characters of the fiction world and I am certain that Stark and O'Brien would make the roll. I look forward to going on other adventures with Morgan and Felicity.

Austin S. Camacho gives his well-known Hannibal Jones a break and introduces two new and intriguing characters in his latest novel, THE PAYBACK ASSIGNMENT. Morgan Stark, mercenary, and Felicity O'Brien, jewel thief, have one thing in common: Adrian Seagrave. The unscrupulous businessman hired them both to do separate jobs and deliberately double-crossed them. Felicity has been stranded in the middle of a South American jungle, and when Morgan finds her, the two have an immediate connection that extends to a psychic level.

Felicity and Morgan are the best in their respective fields, and they decide to join forces to get a little payback. Felicity wants the fabulous jewel she was hired to retrieve, and Morgan feels that he must ensure that his reputation is undamaged. Seagrave is very aware that the two are working together, and a price is put on their heads. Everyone in the business is out to get Morgan and Felicity, but Seagrave has underestimated the talents of these two characters.

THE PAYBACK ASSIGNMENT is violent and thrilling, and the strange relationship between Morgan and Felicity is intriguing. The psychic connection between the two protagonists is unique, albeit a bit forced, and the technical knowledge clearly detailed. The novel is fast-paced with a significant amount of action, and the characters are well- developed. The author wraps up the tale with a minimum of fuss and leaves the possibility for future adventures for both Morgan and Felicity. Fans of action-oriented suspense will enjoy THE PAYBACK ASSIGNMENT.

What goes around comes around, and payback is a -----

What happens when a gorgeous Irish jewel thief and a hardened American mercenary are double-crossed by the same employer and then join forces? Austin Camacho's The Payback Assignment is a 230-page answer to that question, and a very fun and satisfying answer at that. The story line runs at a nice pace from caper to caper, from danger to danger, or from firefight to firefight, until the reader is running right alongside the characters. And best of all, there is a wee bit of the paranormal included. With an ending that could segue perfectly into a second book, one can only hope this is the kick-off for a new series!
