We met before Christmas at the Dulles Towne Center where you had a book signing at Borders. I bought Blood and Bone and finally had the time to read it. I enjoyed it very much. I stayed up until 2 am trying to finish it, which should give you an indication of how much I wanted to continue reading the book. It is the exact kind of book I enjoy reading. I also liked feeling like an insider whenever you wrote about locality. I look forward to reading the rest of the books in the Hannibal Jones series.

Hello. I have recently bought your book "Blood and Bone" from you, and have just finished reading it. I'm glad to say that's one of the most entertaining mystery book I've read so far. this is mostly due to the sequence of unexpected events occuring in the story. Also what makes it better is how it's easy to relate to the setting in the DC, VA areas, and how it's in the modern time period. The unexpected twist of events at the end added more to the intensity of the story. I enjoyed it very much and I will definitely will be keeping up with your books.

It was a quick read once I got started. I really enjoyed the book, the unexpected twists and turns within, as well as the main character, Mr. Jones. I have shared the book with my niece, as this is something we do as part of our "bonding" process - share books we are reading. She's already sent word through her mom that it was a good one and suggests that her mom take the time to read it. I look forward to reading your next one.

Although I have never read suspense books or thrillers, I found Mr. Camacho’s novel very intriguing. It lured me in immediately and had me angry at points and laughing at other points. His realistic depiction of the DMV and surrounding areas had me seeing where he was driving while going to Virginia and had me laughing hysterically at the place he visited in Southern Maryland. Seeing as though I live there now, I almost know exactly the place he might have referenced, because I think I have been there. I am eagerly looking forward to reading the rest of these novels involving Hannibal as I can almost see him right now.

Good job Mr. Camacho and out of 5 stars, I give you 4. You made me a fan!

I don't normally read mysteries, so the genre is new to me. I found your story to be very gripping, full of twists and turns that left me baffled when I reached the end. The characters were nothing short of extraordinary. It was like they acted just as I expected them too. Overall, a great story and I can't wait to pick up another one. I thought this was an awesome book.

You autographed my book for me at the Waldorf Mall in Maryland. I just recently finished the book. It is by far the best book I have ever read !!! I'm not just saying that to be flattering. (lol) The details were so vivid. I could actually picture every scene, hear every noise and smell every smell as if I were Hannibal's senses. It was amazing!!!! I felt like a part of the book. Since it based around the Washington area, it was a lot easier to picture everything. Especially because I've been to that area plenty of times.

I love this book ! I can't wait to read more of them !

Fast Paced Thriller!
This is a fast paced, twisting mystery! If you like the Alex Cross series by James Patterson you will like this series as well!
The writing is tight and crisp with a tone perfect for a private investigator mystery. In addition to the solid mystery, the author does a wonderful job with background descriptions including details of the smells and sights surrounding Hannibal.
This was my first Hannibal Jones read but won't be my last. Although it is part of a series I found it was fine to jump into this book. It is a very good PI mystery thriller!

"I'm the bald headed guy, late 50's, from Ohio, who bought your book at the mall last Saturday. You autographed "Collateral Damage" for me. I didn't start the book until the 31st as I was finishing a history book and my thoughts were to start it in between football games and finish it next week. Hey, I couldn't put it down. I very much enjoyed it and my biggest compliment is that you made a fun book with out the need to add gutter or street language to "make it more real."

The book took me back to the 70's TV mysteries in ways, made me think of Mannix and Shaft since Hannibal is black of course. Since I have not read much fiction lately you have opened a new direction for me to follow, I'll deffinitely check out your other books.

Around Christmas time my parents were shopping at Borders and bought me your latest book Blood and Bone. I started to read it (I read most of it too ) and then I started getting more homework and tests and then I started getting really busy with soccer and I rarely had time to read. But then just last night I finished the last 50 pages of the book and I just couldn't stop. I finished the last 50 pages in an hour. I LOVED the book! I was so glad that I finally took the time to finish reading it! The whole book beginning to end was good! I hope you write more Hannibal Jones mysteries because he is one cool dude! I'm even going to recommend it to my friend because she likes mysteries as well and I know that she will love this one! Sorry again that it took so long and thanks for writing this awesome book!

I met you in Frederick MD, at Borders. I spoke with you and purchased your book. You asked me to email you my opinion of your book. Well, Mr. Camacho, I ABSOLUTELY LOVED YOUR BOOK! It was so awesome, I could not put it down. The characters were so well described I could see them and felt as if I knew them. The plot/storyline held me spellbound trying to figure out where you were going with the story (you were always a step or two ahead of me-which I loved). I also was very impressed that there was no foul language in your book and it wasn't too graphic to be offensive hence I can pass this along to my Christian friends. You truly are a gifted soul. Please keep writing and I will keep reading you. Thank you so much for such an enjoyable read.

I purchased Blood and Bone from you at the book fair at Carroll Community College. I enjoyed your novel very much. I remember once giving a chapter of a book I was trying to write to a professor at college. He agreed to keep reading until he was no longer interested in what happened next. Unfortunately for me, that was after about 6 pages. Well, you and Hannibal passed that test with flying colors. I was constantly interested in what was coming next, and the revelation at the end knocked my socks off.

Anyway, congratulations on your writing and on the book.

Whenever I get a book by an author I've never read before, I'm willing to give him 15 pages to capture my attention, because, let's face it, life is short, right? I don't have time to waste on drivel. Austin Camacho's Blood and Bone grabbed my attention on the first page, held it in a choke hold until I finished the book. It is exceptionally rare that I finish a book in one sitting, but I couldn't put this one down. The characters are engaging. The pacing is perfect. And Mr. Camacho's word choice is dead-on. He spins a mental image with his short but clear descriptions that drew me into the story and made me care about the characters. The twists were well plotted and this was just a FUN READ! I can't wait to get the rest of the series. I enjoyed this book so much; I've already started casting the movie in my head!

Thank you Mr. Camacho for a very enjoyable evening! I hope to have many more!

Just finished a novel by Austin S. Camacho, titled Blood and Bone. A writer out of the DC area, and before you groan and say, "another one", understand that this is not a man who pens the Same-Old-Song-And-Dance thriller/lawyer/blah-blah-blah stuff we've all come to know and love recently because that's all that's out there. No, this is what writing is about. Austin's Hannibal Jones character is a modern day throwback to an era where stories were driven by the players in them. Think Sam Spade meets Urban Badass. I can't help but believe that Bogart would only be too happy to pass on this mantle. No BS, no frills, (None that you don't need anyways) but enough mystery and twists to keep you wondering (I'm not sure he allows you to rest long enough to be guessing) until the end. I've already slated time in my schedule to pick up the next HJ story, Collateral Damage

My son-in-law got me an autographed copy of "B&B" and said you would like to hear my comments on it. I really liked it a lot! I loved Hannibal Jones, although he seemed to survive a lot of nasty beatings without any serious injuries. But what the hell, he is a hard boiled PI and that's what they do. At least he kept in shape and wasn't always drinking and smoking like those of the Golden Age" who somehow survived similar clobberings. Is it possible that HJ has a cousin named "Fearless"?

As a final tribute to the novel: the new "Harry Potter" has been sitting on my desk waiting until I finished "B&B."

Keep writing

I purchased "Blood and Bone" recently, having met you at a Border's signing event where I purchased it. I read it (as promised) in less than a week on the subway to and from work. The story was very well presented and it was an easy and enjoyable ride... The plot was interesting and the characters were exceptionally imaginable... You are wonderfully creative and imaginative, and I certainly found myself immersed in the world of Blood and Bone, wondering where I would end up next. Keep up the good work.

You developed quite an intriguing storyline and did a great job wrapping everything up at the end. As the story progressed I went from thinking that there was way too much coincidence going on, to thinking oh this all makes sense now. I am definitely looking forward to reading more of your books. I've received a copy of the Hannibal Jones mystery, Blood and Bone. I took it on vacation and couldn't put it down. It is truly an enjoyable read.

Who is the real mark in Blood and Bone? It's hard to tell. We start off with Hannibal Jones accepting a missing person's case to find a man's lost son -- 18 years lost -- a very cold trail. But then the action shifts gears when the son turns up deceased. Now where to is the question; because the purpose of finding the man's son was to save another young man, Kyle, who was dying of a rare form of cancer. Who is Kyle? The dead man's son. So, the quest is to save Kyle's life and he has about ten to twelve days more to live. Then pops up an illegitimate half-sister. Kyle's family is overjoyed. However, is she really who she says she is?

This non-stop, action-packed, hold-your-breath, whodunit will have you missing your commuter stop and making you late for work! Austin S. Camacho has done it again -- brilliantly.

Blood and Bone is a fabulous new addition to the Hannibal Jones series.

Throw away your map, it will do you no good on the switchbacks of Mr. Camacho's plots. When Hannibal Jones takes the wheel, just hold on tight and enjoy the ever-changing view until you careen around the last corner, crest the final rise, and screech to a halt because, alas, the ride is over. You never know where the trail is leading, but when you look back the way you came, it is all laid out for you. The ending is satisfying, and a good one--no rabbits pulled out of hats, no cheap tricks. Hannibal Jones is a gritty guardian angel, and his struggles to clean up any corner of the world he touches--starting, literally, in his own back yard--make for page-turning books. Which reminds me, I only came online to complete my collection of Mr. Camacho's books--gotta go!

In Blood and Bone, Austin Camacho has created a mystery worth puzzling over. Every time you think you've got it figured out, the story takes another unexpected twist. No one is who they appear to be. No one that is, except for Hannibal Jones, an old-school private detective, tough and effective, with a sensitive side, driven by his commitment to the truth and his promise to a dying boy. Camacho's writing is crisp, his pace quick and his characters fun. Quite simply, Blood and Bone is a damn good read.

I just finished reading Austin Camacho's first book and was pleasantly surprised to find a fun and interesting read. After finishing the book, I was left with that sad feeling I get when a story is over and I no longer have those characters to entertain me. I like the main characters and see Hannibal as a complex "hero" type. The only part of the story I had trouble buying was Hannibal's ability to so quickly recover from a beating but, other than that, the believability factor was good. The portrayal of Cindy was interesting...I liked her as a strong and independent woman attractive enough to win over the strong attractive hero. While I still don't have much free time, I am looking forward to reading the next Hannibal Jones book.

I have just finished reading Blood and Bone by Austin Camacho. I was impressed. It was good stuff for a new detective novel. A realistic layout of the Baltimore Washington metro area as a part of the crime scene. Mr. Camacho breathes enough into his characters for them to have life and believability. The words flow at a smooth pace to maintain interest and more then enough mystery to keep the reader glued to the page. The details of the characters are old school much like the authors of yesteryears. The action is brisk and fits well into the story not action for the sake of action or lack of words. After first meeting Hannibal Jones in Blood and Bone, I wondered what made him tick. In Collateral Damage, I wondered about his unlikely friendships with Ray Santiago, Sarge, Quaker and the powerful Mother Washington. The prequel -- the Troubleshooter --puts it all in perspective. In the process of helping us better understand Hannibal Jones and these amazing friendships, Camacho, once again, weaves a great tale. Here we see Jones, the new entrepreneur, in his early days as a professional PI/troubleshooter/problem solver-for-hire. His first case takes us through a circuitous path of poverty, crime, intrigue and adventure. And as Jones navigates an accurately presented Washington, D.C. area, we have a chance to explore his generous heart, stubborn bravado, and genuine human foibles. Readers will want to be sure to set aside time for a cover-to-cover read. And then we'll wait, somewhat patiently, for the next Hannibal Jones adventure. Reviewer: Barbara Goodno, Washington, D.C.

A great read from a talented story craftsman!!  "Blood and Bone is an action-packed, sensitively written thriller. Hannibal Jones is a hero whom anyone would want on their side. He and his girlfriend Cindy make one heck of an investigative team. Mr. Camacho creates so many twists and turns that the reader can only hang on until the exciting crescendo. Each lead Jones turns up exposes another thread, and even the good guys and the bad guys keep switching roles. Irresistible Read!, October 1, 2003

I read the glowing reviews before I bought B & B, so I should have been prepared. Still, I didn't expect to stay up all night to finish it! I've always gotten sick when I didn't get enough sleep.I know better. Slumber is holy to me. Camacho was the first author to break my discipline in two decades. (The last being Henry James.) I knew that I'd end up paying for my weakness, but I didn't care.

And I don't hold it against Camacho(or Hannibal)that I woke up with laryngitis, an ear ache and an impressive fever today,24 hours after I read the final sentence of Blood and Bone. It was that good.

No more intriguing, fun or masterful mystery hero has ever been created. Camacho's plots pull you in like no others. He tantalizes you with little bits of information implicating a cast of deliciously vivid characters. He involved me on a whole new level as a mystery reader. He made me think, speculate, take part in a way I didn't think I could in solving the crime. It was simply too much fun to put off to the next day.

Run out and buy B & B now. But don't start reading it until you get off work on Friday. Trust me.

Austin Camacho's Blood and Bone was the first mystery I've read in some time, and I left it wanting to read more of his work. Set primarily in the Washington/Baltimore area, the book maintains a strong level of suspense throughout, and is a quick and interesting read. Camacho draws his characters with good attention to detail, and several of them stayed vivid even several weeks after reading the book. The book also carried a strong sense of place, with the settings in Baltimore, DC and in Mexico drawn vividly and crisply. A quick read and one well worth picking up. I'm looking forward to the next one.

An Exciting Tale and an Awesome Hero

Reviewer: Lois H -- San Diego, CA

Hannibal Jones is not your typical PI. He's not your typical action hero. He is a true "troubleshooter" and is written to be smart, passionate and intriguing. I met the author while visiting Columbia, MD and I found the description of my former stomping grounds of Baltimore and Washington DC interesting. I bought both of Mr. Camacho's books at a book signing at Wine in the Woods and once I got into Blood and Bone, I couldn't believe how wonderfully the characters were written and the story kept me guessing until the end.

I will be back for more books by this author. His characters were very real and were woven together in a chilling tapestry. Also had a surprising ending but of course I won't tell....you must read for yourself.

I really enjoyed the mystery! I am not a mystery reader. I usually read non-fiction, science fiction, fantasy or historical fiction - the last mystery novel I tried to read was one by Margaret Truman and I quit in the middle. "Blood and Bone" really kept my interest. I wanted to learn more about the main character, Hannibal Jones, and I liked the detailed references to the Washington Baltimore area (I grew up and now live in the area and I enjoyed following Hannibal to familiar places).

I purchased your mystery, Blood and Bone, at the Fourth of July celebration in Vienna, VA.  I found the book fast-paced; I enjoyed the plot twists at the end. Your treated "diversity" especially well.  I thought you did a good job of developing your characters. Clearly, your writing style has benefited by your extensive experience as a broadcast journalist and a military news journalist. Again, I enjoyed your mystery.  How do I buy the second book in the embryonic series?

Blood and Bone keeps the adrenalin flowing

L. S. Rogers -- Southern MD

Great read! I thoroughly enjoyed feeling a part of Hannibal Jones life. Mr. Camacho not only developed an interesting and believable story line he writes with the ability to make you feel you are there, fully participating in the excitement. The only drawback to this read is that absolutely nothing was accomplished at my house from the time I picked it up until I was finished reading it. Snacks, OK but forget fixing real meals and forget housework......I had better things to experience with Hannibal and his friends. I look forward to the next installment.

I thoroughly enjoyed Blood and Bone. This was my first introduction to Hannibal Jones and company. Mr. Camacho introduced and developed these characters in a way that allowed me to get to know them right away. They were all good, likable people with a keen sense of humor. Loved the twists and turns of Hannibal's path to finding the bad guys. Just when I thought I had it figured out.....

Truly a good action/mystery. I had a hard time putting down. I always like reading books with characters and places I'm familiar with so I am looking forward to my next encounter with Hannibal.

You've done an excellent job.  The plot has more twists and turns than a Grand Prix race.

Austin Camacho's Blood and Bone was the first mystery I've read in some time, and I left it wanting more. Set in the Washington/Baltimore area, the book maintains a strong level of suspense throughout, and is a quick and interesting read. Camacho draws his characters with good attention to detail, and they stayed vivid even several weeks after reading the book. The book also carried a strong sense of place, with the settings in Baltimore, DC and in Mexico drawn vividly and crisply. A quick read and one well worth picking up. I'll be watching for future work from Austin Camacho.

Blood and Bone Sparkles!

Blood and Bone sparkles with gems of bitingly witty description and dialogue. Austin Camacho has mastered the one liner scribed to get his point across perfectly. Each page I turned had more twists and turns until the surprise ending. I recommend this book to everyone, especially those who thought the gumshoe detective novel was a thing of the past.

Frantic Search

The title may lead you to believe the story is about death, but Austin Camacho moves the reader through a portion of the life of a teenage leukemia patient holding his breath for a bone marrow transplant to save his life. Time is the villian and Camacho's handling of the villian is masterful. You feel the tension of the race to identify a donor. Many obsticles are thrown up and there are twists and turns in the road. The ending is NOT as expected. This book should be on your shelf!

I highly recommend buying Austin Camacho's Blood And Bone to all. Each chapter of this novel starts out with enough twists, turns and action to keep you in suspense and wanting more thus keeping you compelled to continue reading because of the mystery of...Blood and Bone. The main character has a soft heart for ladies in distress but is no push over when it comes to holding his own against the local thugs of the Baltimore/Dc area. Once you start to read Austin Camacho's novel "Blood And Bone", you'll be magnetized to it!

A MUST Read!

From the opening sentence to the very last, you won't want to stop reading this action-packed page-turner. Definitely not suitable for bedtime reading. If you read it when you're drowsy, you'll never keep up with the pace; if you read it to GET drowsy, you'll be up all night. Mr. Camacho is a gifted storyteller with the skill to pull you inside his characters, to make you see what they see and feel what they feel. It was more like watching a great action movie than reading a book. Very engrossing. Two thumbs up for Blood and Bone, and I can't wait for the next Hannibal adventure!

I just finished the novel "Blood and Bone"...AWESOME!! I love a good mystery...usually read Patterson, Grisham, Higgins-Clark..I couldn't put this book down. What a refreshing approach to the world of mystery novels. The characters are like a breath of fresh air in a smoky room. The descriptions are colorful. Liked the way he developed them, keeping in mind they have to be interesting if there are to be any follow up novels. Hannibal is life size, interesting, definitely worth pursuing, surrounds his self with believable characters. Sarge will remind people of someone they can identify with, a person they have met before. Like the way the he weaves them into the plot. Getting ready to go back to school to get my masters degree. Know I'll have a ton of required reading to do. :( Figure I owe it to myself to allot a little time to sit in the sun and relax. What better way than with a good mystery novel. Blood and Bone by Austin S. Camacho came highly recommended. I was NOT disappointed. Looking forward to more of the same. Keep up the good work!!

Grisham meets Shaft!

B & B combines the plot twists and suspense of a John Grisham novel with the attitude and punch of a Shaft movie. Any fan of mystery/action stories should enjoy this book, which is fast-moving and surprisingly complex for a story of less than 200 pages. By my count there are more than 20 significant characters in the book who are all inter-related to each other in some way, often in multiple ways. This complexity makes the ending to the story impossible to predict -- unless, of course, you make a lucky guess. Readers familiar with the Washington DC metro area will also appreciate the real-life local settings in which much of the story unfolds.

Powerful ! Much more than expected! I always enjoy a good mystery. That is what I expected here. This started out good and got better as I went along! A Whodunit of the highest caliber. So many twists and turns, each more fascinating than the last. Definitely a 'can't put it down' book. I am anxiously awaiting the next title. Austin Camacho has moved to the top of my Favorite authors list.

A fun read! Blood and Bone is a fast-paced whodunit in which complex new plot twists appear with every turn of the page. It's a tale of Hannibal Jones' face-off against a litany of evils -- organized crime, prostitution, the drug world and domestic abuse, among them -- as he strives to save one life while restoring hope to several others. In his first novel, Austin Camacho has successfully delivered action-packed drama that combines suspense, romance and a touch of humor -- all in the fresh, colorful style of a master storyteller.

I finished your novel and quite frankly I look forward to seeing more of the main character, I do hope you are going to write more on him. The unexpressed anger, the emotional determination, of whether you really liked or disliked the hero. He seemed more real than a lot of the other cutouts in adventure/thriller novels. Look forward to reading your other works.

Compelling action adventure, which also won my heart. The plot of Blood and Bone gripped me, compelling me to read further and further. The hero, for all his toughness, captured me with his compassion. I'd recommend this book to anyone with a thirst to be challenged and entertained.

Feel a need to let you know I finished your book. Enjoyed it immensely. Bringing it home for Big Dad; also want to read it again. Was super intrigued by the web of evil you wove. Each time I thought it was coming to the end, there was another detail -- and how well you wove those details together. Didn't have a clue as to the surprise ending. Hated being interrupted when I was into it, and that is the sign of a "YES, DON'T HESITATE TO RECOMMEND IT TO OTHERS." Wish you well in all you do, especially your writing.

A Thrilling Read!

This exciting, roller coaster ride of a book maintains a plot thick with suspense and mystery. It is a very well-written thriller that grabs the reader, takes them on a whirlwind or a ride and leaves them wanting for more from this talented new author! I cannot wait for the next book to thrill me!

Dear Austin,

Karen Roose lent me "Blood and Bone" to read last weekend. It was the BEST!!! I read it in 5 hours, honestly couldn't put it down....told her you should submit a script to the movies because I could really see it happening, this was really, really great!!! Can't wait to read "The Payback Assignment". All the best. Keep it coming.....

My first impression of the book was that it seemed a little far fetched, but that changed as I got into it, and I really liked it. Let me know when your next book will be out, and if you will be going anywhere to sign it.
